My Great-aunt Kay’s Fruit Crumble

Zutaten

  • 500 g [1 lb 2 oz] prepared fruit (about 4 cups) such as apple, rhubarb, plums or blackberries
  • 100 g [3 ½ oz (½ cup)] caster (superfine) sugar 150 g [5 oz] self-raising flour (1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour mixed with 1 ¾ teaspoons baking powder)
  • 75 g [2 ¾ oz (5 ½ tablespoons)] butter

Zubereitung

Preheat the oven to 180°C / 350°F / Gas Mark 4. Coat the fruit with half the sugar and place in an ovenproof dish. To make the crumble (crumb topping), rub the flour and butter together with your fingertips until they resemble breadcrumbs. Fold in the rest of the sugar. Cover the fruit with the crumble and bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes until golden brown.
